What is RTE Gujarat?

Samjhein — Right to Education kya hai aur aapka bacha kaise fayda utha sakta hai

RTE Gujarat is the state-level implementation of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009 — a law passed by the Indian Parliament that makes free education a fundamental right for every child aged 6 to 14 years.

⚖️ Under Section 12(1)(c) of the RTE Act, every private unaided primary school in Gujarat must reserve 25% of Class 1 seats for children from EWS and disadvantaged groups — completely free from Class 1 to Class 8. The government reimburses full fees directly to the school.

Gujarat began implementing RTE in 2013. Over 12 years, it has grown massively — with 2,38,916 applications received and 95,511 seats allocated in the 2025-26 cycle alone, across 9,741 private schools in all 33 districts.

The Gujarat Directorate of Primary Education manages the entire admission process online through rte.orpgujarat.com. The system uses a transparent computerized lottery for fair seat allotment.

6 Critical Tips to Avoid Rejection

In 2025-26, over 75% rejections were avoidable — in karo aur safe raho

1
Double-Check Before Confirming
Form "Confirm" karne se pehle 2 baar check karein. Ek baar confirm hone ke baad details nahi badal sakti.
2
Scan at Computer Shop
Mobile camera ki jagah computer shop se scan karwayein — 200-300 DPI, 500KB se kam. Poor quality = form reject.
3
Select 10 Schools
Apne area ke top 10 schools chunein. Ghar se 1-3 km radius pehle, phir 3-6 km. Zyada choices = zyada chances.
4
Correct Mobile Number
Wahi number dein jo hamesha chalu rehta ho — lottery result aur OTP usi par aayega. OTP kabhi share mat karein.
5
Name Matching Checklist
35% rejections name mismatch se hoti hain. Aadhaar, Birth Cert, Income Cert — sab pe ek hi spelling. Affidavit lein agar alag hai.
6
72-Hour Window Alert
Lottery result aane ke baad 72 ghante ke andar school jayen with original documents. Weekend bhi count hota hai!

Application closed — Check your Round 2 status now

Round 2 admit card available. Confirm school admission by May 28, 2026 with original documents. Missing the 72-hour window = automatic cancellation.

Frequently Asked Questions

RTE Gujarat 2026 ke baare mein sabse common sawaal aur unke jawab

What is RTE Gujarat 2026?

RTE Gujarat 2026 is the state-level implementation of the RTE Act 2009 for the 2026-27 academic year. Under this scheme, 25% of Class 1 seats in 9,741 private schools across Gujarat are reserved for children from EWS and disadvantaged families — completely free from Class 1 to Class 8. Each admitted child also receives ₹3,000/year via DBT for books, uniform, and transport.

What is the income limit for RTE Gujarat 2026?

Annual family income must be under ₹6,00,000/year — this is a uniform limit for both rural and urban areas (revised in 2025 from ₹1.2L rural / ₹1.5L urban).

Important: Income is calculated on gross earnings. PF deductions, professional tax, and home loan EMIs do not reduce the gross figure. You need a valid income certificate from Mamlatdar or TDO (less than 6 months old). If you have PAN but haven't filed ITR, a Self-Declaration is mandatory.

What is the age limit for RTE Gujarat 2026?

Child must be 5 years 6 months to 6 years old as of June 1, 2026. This means the child should be born between June 2, 2020 and December 1, 2020.

⚠️ The portal auto-verifies age to the exact date — a child born June 1, 2020 = rejected, born June 2, 2020 = eligible. In 2025-26, 2,347 applications (6%) were auto-rejected for age miscalculation alone.

Can I still apply? Is the application window open?

No. The online application window was April 4, 2026 to April 17, 2026 (midnight) — now permanently closed for 2026-27.

If you applied before the deadline, check your application status at rte.orpgujarat.com/ApplicationFormStatus. Round 1 result is already out (May 4, 2026). Round 2 admit card is now available.

How does the RTE lottery work?

After document verification, all eligible applications enter a transparent computerized lottery. Seats are allotted based on:

  • Priority category (1 = highest priority, 13 = lowest)
  • Distance from school (closer = higher preference)
  • Preference order of schools selected
  • Random computerized selection within same category/distance

Gujarat conducts 4 rounds — unfilled seats from each round cascade to the next. After Round 1, approximately 9,000 seats became available in Round 2 from non-confirmed admissions.

What is the official website for RTE Gujarat?

The official website is rte.orpgujarat.com. If this site is slow during result time, use any of the 4 alternate servers:

How much financial help does the government provide?

Each admitted child receives ₹3,000/year via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for uniforms, bags, books, and transport. Private school fees are reimbursed directly by the government to the school.

In 2023-24, Gujarat disbursed ₹3,723 crore for RTE — including ₹2,665 crore as fee reimbursement and ₹1,057 crore as direct assistance to 6 lakh+ students. Higher education support of up to ₹13,000 may also be available.

What happens if a school refuses to admit my child?

Schools refusing allotment must provide written justification within 48 hours. If they don't:

  • File written complaint with District Education Officer (DEO) within 24 hours, citing Section 12(1)(c) RTE Act 2009
  • DEO must resolve within 7 days
  • If DEO takes no action, you can file a direct complaint with SCPCR (State Commission for Protection of Child Rights)
Is there a helpline for RTE Gujarat?

Yes. The state helpline number is 079-23253973 (working days, 11 AM to 5 PM). Each district also has its own helpline number available at rte.orpgujarat.com/Home/Helpline. You can also submit feedback at rte.orpgujarat.com/Home/Feedback.

What if my Round 1 application was rejected due to wrong documents?

For 2026-27, the document re-upload window was April 27-29, 2026 (3 days). Re-verification by districts was April 27-30, 2026. This window is now closed.

If your application is still rejected, you can contact the District Education Officer helpline. In some cases, applicants may be eligible for Spot Admission (Round 4) in June 2026 at DEO offices.
